The patch panel is an intermediate device for the termination and connection of cables or optical cables. It can be defined as a wiring distribution device suitable for jumper connection and sequencing. The patch panel is mainly divided into two categories: copper cable patch panel and optical fiber patch panel.
1. Copper cable patch panel
The copper cable patch panel commonly used in the network integrated cabling project is mainly the twisted pair patch panel, that is, the RJ45 standard patch panel. Copper cable patch panel can be divided into 110 type patch panel and modular patch panel (straight-through type patch panel). The 110-type patch panel is the core part of the 110-type connection management system.
The basic components of the 110-type connection management system are patch panels, connection blocks, jumpers, and labels. Modular patch panel, also known as cabinet (frame) type patch panel, is a modular, embedded patch panel, featuring a connection block installed on a printed wiring board (PWB) at the back of the frame.
2. Optical fiber patch panel
Optical fiber patch panels are divided into unit type, drawer type, and modular optical fiber patch panels. The fiber optic cable patch panel is generally composed of an identification part, an optical fiber coupler, an optical fiber fixing device, a fusion splicing unit, etc., which can facilitate the patching, fixing and protection of the optical fiber.
In addition to the above two categories, patch panels can also be divided into modular patch panels and IDC patch panels by cable termination methods; they can be divided into wall-mounted or cabinet-type patch panels by the installation location. They can be divided into building patch panels and floor patch panels by location and according to management methods can be divided into traditional patch panels and electronic patch panels.
